PSF Distinguished Lecture | “Science Now” and its Implications for the History of the Physical Sciences

Session Information

Mott T. Greene is John Magee Professor of Science and Values (Emeritus) at the University of Puget Sound, and Affiliate Professor of Earth and Space Sciences at the University of Washington. A historian of earth and atmospheric sciences, he is a fellow of the Geological Society of America (2017), and a Friedman Medalist of the Geological Society of London (2016). His biography of Alfred Wegener was published in 2015. He will speak on the coming challenge of writing the history of physical sciences post-1980 (i.e., now) in a computationally driven world of multi-author publications, where theory change has given way to the search for applications and profits, and in which the techniques we associate with physical science are rapidly coming to dominate biology, earth sciences, and even natural history.

Sponsored by the Physical Sciences Forum (PSF)

*The PSF Distinguished Lecture will directly follow a brief PSF Business Meeting.
